Dry needling is a technique used at Toorak Village Podiatry to treat a variety of lower limb issues. The technique involves inserting fine acupuncture needles in to specific trigger points. Trigger points are areas of muscle spasm or tension that may be causing pain or dysfunction. The procedure may be repeated over a series of sessions depending on the severity and your response to treatment.
Dry needling can be an effective treatment option for conditions such as plantar fasciitis, Achilles tendinopathy, shin splints, and muscle strains or tension. During a dry needling session, the podiatrist will identify specific trigger points in the affected areas and insert the needles to stimulate the release of tension and promote healing.
In addition to promoting healing and relieving pain, dry needling may also help to. increase blood flow and oxygen delivery to the affected area, which can speed up the healing process. If you are experiencing foot or calf pain talk to our podiatrists at Toorak Village Podiatry to determine whether dry needling is an appropriate treatment option for you.
